90 - Storm On The Horizon

There's a storm headed our way. This was the actual color of the sky about 20 minutes ago. We're under a severe thunderstorm warning and some parts of the area under a tornado warning.

You may have noticed that I didn't post a photo yesterday.  I'm pretty disappointed that I missed a day, but frankly, it was the last thing I wanted to do at the time. I've been sick as a dog the last couple days and yesterday was the worst of it. Got some kind of stomach virus that wiped out the entire family. I'm on the mend now, but my muscles are still all achy and I have a headache.

85 - Cow Noir

On the drive back from the Lexington, I stopped to get a couple photos of cows grazing in the mist under this fine-looking oak tree.

69 - Life In The Bayou

Today I'm enjoying a day off. Originally, the plan was to spend a good portion of the day at my kids' school where they're holding Spring parties for the various classes. But that activity was cut short by my older son getting sick yesterday. Still, I did spend some time at the school with my younger son. Afterward, I took a drive looking for my daily picture. This photo is of a really nice little pond near the jogging trails not far from the school. There are several spots like this in my neighborhood, which is obviously very pleasant. Lest you start feeling too at peace, however, every one has signs warning you to watch for alligators and poisonous snakes! I've never actually seen either in the neighborhood ponds, but it's still makes this desert boy a little uneasy when I get near the water.

48 - For Susan

I dedicate this photo to my wife, Susan.  You are truly the axis around which my world revolves. You make happiness possible for me and I thank you.  Love you babe!

47 - Lonely Grove

I shot this one in infrared with the idea that it wouldn't really matter if everything was brown for the winter.  I love the look of infrared photos but it's kind of a hassle and it's tricky to get right.  I'm hoping to do more with it in the spring when the foliage gets lush.

37 - Époque Révolue

I had a bit of free time after lunch today, so I took a small drive to get my picture for the day.  I found myself in an area near Memorial Park where I pulled over to get a photo of a odd-looking automobile museum with crazy sheet metal spires and doodads on the roof.  Those photos were disappointing mainly due to the fact that the museum was closed and there was a chain link fence around the place that kept me from getting a good angle on it.  However, on the way back to my car I walked by an antique shop that had all kind of neat things laying about, including this wheel from an old wind mill.  Those photos ended up being the keepers.  The automobile museum has potential and maybe I'll return when it's open -- assuming I can find it again.

28 - Sam Houston

I got a few days behind on posting my daily photos, but rest assured I took a photo everyday and they're going to be put on the site shortly.  This weekend I took a trip up to Dallas.  The massive statue in the photo above is a fixture on I-45 between Houston and Dallas.  It's Sam Houston - hero of the war for Texas independence, Texas governor, and a key figure in Texas joining the United States.  It's a terrific statue, simultaneously magnificent and slightly amusing in having a sense of scale that is truly Texan.

14 - Shizukesa

Today's photo is from the Japanese garden in Hermann Park in Houston.  The weather has been pretty crappy since the new year, either uncommonly cold or rainy and overcast.  So when this morning began in sunshine I was ready to get out and enjoy it.  The Japanese garden is a gorgeous place, even in the winter when a lot of things are dormant.  It must be absolutely stunning in the spring (and I will be returning).  Even the boys were relatively entertained.  They spotted an otter that lived in one of the ponds and they were very excited by that since otters are their favorite animals.

13 - Google Maps Special

Took off from work a little early today to grab my photo and get a start on the weekend.  The location for this picture is a Google Maps Special.  Sometimes I'll get on Google Maps and look up a location where I know I'll be that day.  Then I'll turn on the "photos" feature in Maps which overlays photo icons on the map that you can click on to see a photo from nearby locations.  If I see something interesting there, I'll visit the spot myself and maybe get my own photo.  I always from do it from a different vantage point, but it's helpful to find photo-worthy places near places where I'm already planning to be.

5 - The End of the Day

I'd been wondering what my photo today would be.  I toyed with the idea of taking off from work for a half hour to do some street shooting but that didn't pan out.  Fortunately the sky provided an easy out today.  I will try not to overdo the sunset shot in this project, although if there's something else of interest I'll gladly shoot it during a sunset.

I should give a shout-out to my home state of New Mexico.  The combination of desert, rugged mountains, and dust in the sky make for gorgeous sunsets.  Best of any place I've been and I've been to a few places.
